Home Updating: Backsplash

We had great plans to move. We even went so far as to look at a few houses and begin the process of fixing ours up, hopeful that it would sell quickly. We need more space, being our reason for wanting to move, but during the process of looking at houses and beginning to fix ours up we began to realize that we have it pretty good right where we are and if we fix things up to our liking and not to what we think a potential buyer would want then maybe we could fall in love with our house all over again. When we purchased our current home, we chose one on the lower end of our budget. Just because you are told you can afford something does not mean you really can afford it. It's a good thing we chose wisely because in just a few short years, our debts from student loans, cars, and medical bills became a black cloud over our head. If our house payment had been any higher we would have lost our house.

Cosmetic fixes will not help our space issue but we decided that some of the cosmetic fixes would keep us motivated to figure out how to deal with our space dilemma. My idea is to close in our garage and create a laundry room and bonus room. The hubs is still not convinced.

We've updated a bit here and there but this is my favorite "new" update. A tin (ok, it's fake) backsplash. Before, I had a pistachio colored wall back there and though pretty in color, it had gotten grimy over the years and would not come clean no matter how hard I soaked and scrubbed it. The faux tin was easy to put up. It's nothing more than two solid pieces from Lowe's (around $20 each) and heavy duty double sided tape. We cut it to the size we needed, taped it, and voila...a pretty new shiny backsplash!

Oh, and look at the new flat top range. Everyone complains about how hard they are too clean but I bought Cerama Bright to rub on it every few days and have found it much easier to clean than our old one with the eyes and tins. Speaking of the old one. It was in great condition and I felt a little guilty about getting a new stove when that one was working so well. I called my mom to see if by some slim chance she might want it and it turns out that her old stove is on it's last leg and she was already planning to buy a new one. My guilt went right out the window.

Hopefully by this time next week I'll have pictures of the new siding going up right now. We figured that would most likely be our biggest cosmetic fix so we're getting it out of the way first.
